This is your space to put your goals for the use of ICT in teaching and learning. You can give everyone updates on how you are going throughout the year. At the end of the year, you can upload a short presentation showing the results of your work to this page. Have fun with this space!

Kia ora tatou katoa! ko Ropene Johnson ahau. Ko ahau te kaiako hou i te ruma 10 o Te Kura o Wilford. I took over from Tania after Easter of Term 1 in 2008.
He maha taku whakaaro mo te ICT me wikispaces ki te tuhituhi!
I have returned to teaching after a four year break. I have really enjoyed the ICT journey that being part of this cluster has provided and in a way I am sad that this is the last year of the contract. I was handed a laptop and a digital camera with an air of normality around it and I wondered if it is every schools practice today?
Susie, I only had one session with you which was very useful in setting up Room 10's Wikispace site. This has been very beneficial.
Wikispace
At the beginning of Term 2 the classroom Wikispace was launched with quiet jubilation from its Kaiako. The type of activities that were selected were very appropriate to a group of struggling readers in the class. One of my struggling readers became a more confident user of ICT especially since his whanau accessed the site at home.
It has been really helpful sharing Wikspace sites with other teachers at Wilford School, and the Petone cluster.
Paint/Kids Pix
I was fortunate to find that in my classroom there were 2 computers that had been sitting unused for a significant amount of time. Neither computer had internet access but had Paint and Power Point programmes. I also acquired another old computer to increase the amount of computers available to 4. The majority of my class are boys who are not keen writers so its meant that we were able to complete units of work in a five week turn around, then introduce a new unit of week.
The most difficult part is students managing their own time effectively. Some of the students would waste the time by deleting their work, starting over again in stead of continuing with the work from the previous day or simply procastinate. I have set limited time frames and expectations to increase the level of engagement of the students that needed it.
Paint
The entire class has had two sessions on Paint. One was to design a hoodie and pants, the other to describe a Fairy Tale character. As a teacher, I learnt how to use this programme alongside the students. In our first session, text boxes were used on paint to write down their thoughts about their designs. We quickly found out that it was very difficult to edit your work. In the second session the class wrote their character descriptions in word, edited the work, then pasted it onto paint.
Our next step is animation!
Power Point
The entire class has completed a book review, have learnt to change skins, and to access pictures from art clips and from the internet. At the beginning of Term 3 two students prepared and designed a Power Point to host assembly. Two other students will have an opportunity at the end of the term to prepare a Power Point display for assembly. Digital Camera
I have learnt this term how to use this camera, how to save images, and how to print them. (Very basic - but again, the students in my class taught me!)
The students now really enjoy being the photographer for the day, self assess the quality of the shot and to delete ones that missed the action, and to select images to be printed. One student hated his photo being taken. Over time he became morerelaxed and would just concentrate on the activity he was involved in. Another student learnt to take a photo by clicking the button lightly (all previous pictures had been a blur).
This has been really helpful in recording our learning journey especially for Inquiry.
Reflection
In regards to innovative use of ICT, I think that currently Room 10 and I are getting more familiar with the different programmes that are available, then adding an extra layer o depth the next time the class begins a new unit of work. ICT is a fundamental component in my class. It is time consuming to understand how to use the equipment which only improves with time and experience.
